Pre Neolithic

The Pre-Neolithic period of Cyprus is currently being written as the first colonisation of Cyprus is pushed further and further back. The opening chapter of the 1982 book "Footprints in Cyprus: an illustrated history" is for the Neolithic to Late Bronze Ages 7000?-1600 B.C. That question mark is now sharply in focus and the CAARI monograph "The Earliest Prehistory of Cyprus: From colonization to exploitation (ed. Stuart Swiny)" emphasises how far we have come. If you are told that the site of Khirokitia is the oldest site on Cyprus do not believe them. Look instead to the site of Akrotiri Aetokremnos on the Akrotiri peninsula dated to the 10th Millennium BCE.
